STARS College Network

A resource for students from rural and small-towns

What is STARS?

The Small Town and Rural Students (STARS) College Network is a coalition of 32 of the nation’s most prominent institutions dedicated to ensuring that students from rural and small-town communities have the resources they need to be successful throughout their college journey.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, nearly 70% of Alabama high schools serve rural or small-town communities. Efforts to help these students get the greatest benefit from higher education create a cycle of support and success that, in turn, gives back to the next generation.

  • Dedicated advising and resources tailored to rural and small‑town students.
  • Collaborative events with other top universities allow students to explore many great options in one place.
