Fall 2024 Update

Fall 2024 Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships Update

The University of Alabama is excited to welcome our new students this fall! We know it is important for students and families to understand what scholarships and financial aid are available and what their financial obligations might be. Delays in receiving data from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) from the U.S. Department of Education has made that more challenging this year.

To help you navigate your college decision, below is an overview of the current information regarding deadlines for scholarships, financial aid and steps to enrollment at UA:

Federal Financial Aid and Need-Based Scholarships:

  • Students will be notified of their federal aid packages as soon as we can make accurate decisions.
  • If you have not done so already, submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible to maximize financial aid opportunities as some funding is limited.
  • Incoming in-state students may be eligible for the Alabama Advantage Scholarship but must submit their FAFSA by June 3 to be considered.

Automatic Merit Scholarships:

  • Incoming freshmen admitted by June 3 who meet both the test score and GPA criteria for automatic merit scholarships will be awarded. Composite test scores through December of senior year and GPA through December of senior year are considered.
  • Incoming in-state transfers auto admitted by June 3 who meet both the earned credit hour and GPA criteria will be awarded. We encourage students to have transcripts sent to UA as soon as possible after final grades have posted.

Steps to Enrollment:

  • The UA Undergraduate Application for main campus students will close for out-of-state students on June 3. The application will remain open for Alabama residents until the start of the fall semester.
  • Incoming freshmen should pay their Freshman Enrollment Deposit, apply for housing and register for Bama Bound Orientation as soon as they make their final decision to maximize options.
    • UA does not have a deadline for the Freshman Enrollment Deposit.
      • The housing application will close on June 3. Housing assignments will be made based upon date received. Those received after June 3 students will be placed on a waitlist and reviewed on a space available basis.
    • Fall Semester 2024 admitted students simply must complete all steps to enrollment and register for classes by the Add/Drop Registration Deadline of August 28.
    • Main campus transfer students should register for orientation as soon as they make their final decision to maximize options.
